WORLD CLASS is a description too often used lightly. Here’s a new definition. Opened in 2023, our new Rodney Green Foundation Turf Training Facility is truly a world class high performance hub for elite cricketers and cricket teams. And, it’s the only place in New Zealand where players can train under the stars in purpose-built nets!
The permanent training home of our national champion Central Stags and Central Hinds, this $1.8 million dollar custom Cravo greenhouse houses an impressive 16 grass wickets – eight at each end. The roof is both fully retractable for optimal control, and fully lit, enabling both day and evening trainings, and outstanding preparation for night cricket
The sides of the 65m x 20m greenhouse space are also fully retractable, creating a one-of-a-kind cricket facility in the lower North Island that allows quality, Spartacus ryegrass-wicket training all year round in a region of New Zealand known for its attractive climate. Hawke’s Bay is the country’s fruit bowl, and our facility sits square in the middle of renowned apple orchard and vineyard country
In addition, two of the grass pitches in the greenhouse are currently custom-sown in couch grass to specifically assist players to train for subcontinent conditions, all on a bed of Test caliibre Patumahoe clay
Curated by longtime former McLean Park Head Groundsman Phil Stoyanoff, this facility is the jewel in our CD crown. It’s the place our Domestic and International representatives train, and also used by visiting and international high performance teams by arrangement
This amazing facility is accompanied by a 72-bed, self-catering sports hostel and full suite of sports services and gymnasium all on site at Mitre 10 Park, Hastings
